It has been said, "the best motivation, is a good kick in the seat of the pants." God saw fit to make us where we can't kick our own self in the seat of our pants. However, we have been conveniently made to be able to kick other people in their seat! That said, really the best motivation comes internally. Certainly others can prod us, and push us, but what we love to do, that which we enjoy doing, is that which usually gets done. It get's done because we are internally motivated.

Research shows that there are five basic motivators that are universal.

1. Having a sense of purpose.

2. A sense of being indispensable.

3. Seeing progress.

4. Feeling loved.

5. A sense of being trusted.

Rest a moment on each of these motivators and imagine yourself having purpose, being indispensable, gaining ground, feeling appreciated and given power, trust and authority. Can you see yourself there? Wow -- you are on top of the world.

In some way in your life you have the POWER to use all five of these to motivate your husband, wife, children, students, or employees. How are you using these five to make the others around you fly? Be intentional and reap the results. Be neglectful and reap the consequences. You have power to Love, Trust, Compliment Progress, and build purpose and esteem through your words and actions. Use that power!
